Lord Jesus, you know I have accepted your gift of atonement and eternal life and have been born-again in You, even though I’m not sure I deserve it. I’m better able to accept this on an intellectual level; emotionally my heart sits in a fortress lest it be hurt again. And that wall deflects even Your divine unconditional love. As Paul said, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:24-25, NIV)
I have not managed to completely surrender to You by my own efforts, so I ask You: smash me to smithereens and rebuild me anew with a heart without walls and You and the Holy Spirit at the core of me, that I might be a selfless vessel—a conduit for the will of the Spirit and with no will of my own.
This I ask in Your Holy Name, Jesus. Amen.
